Sorting plastic granules: Optimising product quality
Optical sorting has an important role to play in the plastics industry. Even when utmost care is taken during all steps of production and processing of plastics, a contamination of the pellets cannot be ruled out. With our optical sorting services, we can identify and remove these defects.
Our services offer the following advantages:
- higher quality virgin plastic pellets
- improvement of off-spec materials
- separation of mixed materials or materials contaminated by foreign substances
Thanks to these options, valuable raw materials and energy are saved as the contaminated goods do not have to be reproduced. Outsourced optical sorting makes a significant contribution to a sustainable plastics economy and the conservation of resources.
With more than 20 years of experience in optical and mechanical sorting of plastic pellets, we are the right partner for your needs. As each sorting request is different, an individual approach is required to establish a tailor-made offer. Our customer decides on the scope and variety of our services.
We are ideally equipped for every common type of packaging and will also arrange for the transport if needed:
- Bags
- Barrels
- Big bags
- Octabins
- Silo trailers
- Containers
On your site: Flexible plastic pellets sorting
Thanks to our mobile plastic pellets sorting system, we have the option of removing impurities from your product directly on your site (e.g. outsourced sorting) for large quantities of contaminated pellets. The Mobile Granule Clinic® pellets sorting system is a promising and innovative technology that enables the product to be processed further immediately on your site without having to factor in the loss of time for transport.
How does it work? The sorting machine is installed on a 40-foot container vehicle chassis that can be easily transported to any location. It only takes a few hours to get the entire sorting system ready for use. The sorting process combines four pellets sorting techniques: Optical sorting, sieving, demetallisation and dedusting. This means we can use the right technology suited to your material and the contamination you are facing, wherever you are.
Challenges with contaminated plastic pellets
As every order and every batch of plastic pellets is different, experience in handling your products, selecting the right technology and the right machine settings are essential for a flawless sorting process.
You can rely on our expertise throughout the entire sorting process. For more than 20 years, we have found and removed many different contaminants from a wide variety of virgin plastic pellets.
Thermal stress on the pellets during manufacturing can cause the following contaminations:
- Black spots
- Burns
- Die drools
- Discolouration
During pelletisation and conveying, further contamination may occur:
- Longs
- Under- or oversized pellets
- Doubles, triples or chains
- Clusters
- Tails
- Angel hair
- Dust
Contamination can also consist of foreign substances such as:
- Foreign pellets
- Metal inclusions and loose metal particles
- Pallet and foil residues
- Stones
Precise sorting through optoelectronic sorting
Optoelectronic sorting makes precise separation of plastic pellets possible. Each pellet is scanned individually by cameras and checked for impurities. This means that our machines can detect the smallest colour deviations and defects and then reliably reject them.
A large quantity of pellets can be processed through efficient sorting. Our quality assurance throughout the sorting process ensures a consistent result.
